We woke to glorious blue skies - hot too :) so I packed breakfast and a picnic lunch and at 10 o clock we headed off to Landguard to watch the boats leave the River Orwell. We had only got to the beach when I realised I had left our cold drinks in the fridge :( so we made a small detour to Lidl to buy some water ! We continued through Langer Park and down to Landguard Beach. We sat at favourite spot where the River Orwell joins the sea and had our pastries as a huge container ship and ferry leave :) It was quite busy today including a group of photographers doing close-ups of stones/shell - one of them sat so'ooooo close we thought we had to share our breakfast with him !!! and he had mile of beach too.We even manage to collect a little coal and spot Swainy's yacht racing out to sea :) We continued to the viewing point which was very busy too - turning watching a dredger working in the dock into a spectator sport :) we got a price list for the Shotley ferry hoping to take our bikes across in the future but at £34 return for two we might give it a miss :( We then head around the back of the docks to Trimley Marshes stopping for a brief visit to the winter flood bird hide were we are lucky enough to see Avocets and Black Tailed Godwits :) We continue along the river path finding a great spot overlooking Levington for our picnic and read and watch loads of boats sailing including an old wherry :) Instead of going to Levington Marina a head across the fields and woods with fantastic Suffolk skies !!! We get back home after 6 hours a little red and tired but have a great day out - we love Suffolk :)
